Small Carved Wood Sculpture by George Mullen

Titled 'Positive/Negative Wood Shapes' this is an interesting carved wood sculpture by artist George Mullen. It appears that all the wood was layered in a block and then the shapes were cut out and reassembled slightly out of alignment creating more depth and visual interest. This piece is mounted on a copper rod that swivels in the wooden base. This is one of a number of pieces we acquired directly from the artists estate.

11" wide 7" deep x 21" tall

About the artist; In the early 1960's George P. Mullen arrived in Santa Barbara, California having spent many years studying art and design, and working as in interior designer and artist. With his wife Theresia he set up a small company that produced unique furniture of his own design. In the mid 1970's when the business could no longer compete with large volume manufactures George focused on his art and worked in virtually every medium creating numerous pieces through the early 2000's. He particularly focused on carved wood pieces both large and small.
